The LANAP Procedure

First, we perform a thorough exam, including X-ray and measurement of the gum pocket. Every patient's mouth is different, and we want to know what we're working with before we start.
Next, we slide a tiny laser fibre (about as thin as three human hairs) into the gum pockets. Healthy tissue doesn't absorb this wavelength the same way, so it stays put
After the laser pass, we do dental cleaning. This gives the gums a clean surface to reattach to. The roots get smoothed down, so bacteria have fewer places to grip onto.
Following laser dentistry treatment, scaling, and root planing may be performed to remove plaque and tartar buildup from the tooth and root surfaces. This further cleans and smoothens the root surfaces, reducing the risk of reinfection.
