Dental Implants in Sacramento CA

A dental implant is a titanium device that is fixed in the jawbone where a tooth has been lost. Once the bone heals around the titanium device, the dentist attaches a replacement tooth. An implant looks and feels like a real tooth after final reconstruction.

An implant is the safest option when you lose a tooth. After an implant, you can chew normally, talk properly, and match the other teeth in colour and shape. An added advantage is that your jawbone does not shrink, which can occur when a gap is left empty for a long time. No adhesives. No taking them out at night.
Samuel Dental Care in Sacramento, CA, gives people their smile back. Patients who’ve been through it tell us they forget which tooth the implant is in.

Types of Dental Implants in Sacramento, CA

Endosteal Implants

This is the most common type we place. A titanium post goes straight into the jawbone. It works for patients who have enough bone to anchor into. These implants have a higher success rate, last longer, and support various dental procedures.

Subperiosteal Implants

These sit on the jawbone, not inside it. A metal frame goes under your gum tissue and rests on top of the bone surface. The implant posts stick up through the gums and hold the replacement teeth in place. Subperiosteal implants are for patients who don't have enough bone height to support a regular implant and want to skip the bone grafting step. They can hold crowns, bridges, or dentures just like the endosteal type.

All-on-4 Implants

Four implants are placed at specific angles in the jaw, and a full arch of teeth is attached on top. This works for people who've lost most of their teeth and don't have much bone left to work with. In many cases, you can leave our Sacramento office with your teeth the same day the implants are placed. Fewer surgeries, less overall time in the chair.

Mini Implants

They work when there isn't enough space or bone for a full-size post. Placement is less involved, healing is faster, and they cost less. We use them to lock down loose dentures or hold small bridges in spots where a regular implant wouldn't fit. Not right for every case, but they solve specific problems well.

The Dental Implant Process

Your first visit is usually a consultation, where the hygienist asks you about your dental issue. Make up a report. They check the inside of your mouth thoroughly for any swelling or redness. Then, a CT scan or X-ray is ordered to check the jawbone.

If everything looks healthy, we will let you know the treatment plan. In this, we will let you know what will happen during your upcoming visits. For instance, one patient might need to get a tooth pulled out first. At the same time, another would need a bone graft for their weak jawbone.

We also answer all your queries. If you decide you want to proceed with the procedure, we will let you know what you can and cannot do before the surgery. The medications you need to stop. Make you prepared before the surgery.

We numb the area with local anaesthesia so you don’t feel the work being done. Then we open the gum tissue, drill a precise hole into the jawbone, and set the titanium post in place. The post is the implant itself. Sometimes we put a temporary tooth on top right away so you aren’t walking around with a visible gap while everything heals underneath.

After placement, the bone needs time to grow around the post and lock it in. This part is called osseointegration. It usually takes a few months. During that time, you follow the care instructions we give you and come in so we can check on how the healing is going.

Once the bone has been fixed to the titanium post, we attach a small connector piece called an abutment. The tooth is finally minted onto these layers.

We take a clay impression and several photos of our teeth, then send them to the lab to create a replacement tooth. The lab matches the exact colour, size, and shape to the rest of the teeth, so the tooth does not look odd.

When the final tooth is ready, we attach it to the abutment. That’s it. You walk out with a tooth that looks real, chews real, and stays put. Most patients can’t tell the difference after a couple of weeks.

We use them mostly for holding dentures in place or for small bridges where a full-size implant won’t work. They aren’t the answer for every missing tooth, but for certain situations, they get the job done without the longer healing period.
